  • 38th session of the Governing Council

    Distinguished delegates,

    You are cordially invited to attend the Launch of the International Day of Family Remittances, which will take placeon 17 February 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the Oval Room at IFAD headquarters. The objective of this observance is to recognize and raise global awareness of the fundamental contribution by migrant workers to the wellbeing of their families and communities back home, and to the sustainable development of their countries of origin. This Governing Council side event will be aimed at exchanging views on the global effort of promoting the development impact of remittances. In particular, IFAD will present its current strategic and operational experiences in this field and invite member countries to present their experiences and own approaches as well. Following the launch on 17 February, the first official celebration will take place on 16 June in Milan, within the framework of the Global Forum on Remittances and Development 2015, organized by IFAD, the World Bank and the European Commission, in the context of EXPO Milano 2015 – Feeding the planet, energy for life.
