Distinguished representatives,
The Change, Delivery and Innovation Unit (CDI) at IFAD is pleased to announce that this year’s IFAD Innovation Day will be held on Wednesday 28 June.
CDI is currently welcoming proposals for sessions to be included in the event.
Last year, the initiative featured 74 speakers and circa 800 people registered for the event (please see here 2022 IFAD Innovation Day at the IFAD ’22 Conference). The event, which was part of the IFAD’22 Conference, was ran in partnership with governments, the private sector and with the media patronage of RAI Television.
Each session of the 2023 IFAD Innovation Day is expected to last for one hour. We give ownership and autonomy to the hosting partner on the structure that they wish to have but highly recommend that sessions include a high-level keynote speaker (e.g. Ministers, Ambassadors, globally-recognised experts such as Nobel Prize winners, etc.) and we require that content is aligned to the following:
- UN Quintet of Change, which includes behavioural science;
- IFAD’s definition and approach to innovation;
- Presentation of use cases with data and evidence on impact.
This year, we will also have a “marketplace” to feature solutions that have potential for transformative impact in rural areas.
We look forward to engaging with anyone who is spearheading innovation in rural development and agriculture. For any further information, please feel free to write to: g.moralesguevara@ifad.org
Anyone interested in designing and holding a session at the event is welcome to submit proposals by Wednesday 29 March, by sending an email to innovation@ifad.org. Please include the following provisional details:
· Title of the session
· Abstract
· Technical lead
· Tentative agenda

IFAD Innovation Talk No. 13 - “Evaluation through the lens of brain science: Building a humanized approach for better results”
Distinguished representatives,
IFAD’s Change, Delivery and Innovation Unit (CDI) and the Independent Office of Evaluation (IOE) is pleased to invite you to attend a discussion on how brain science can enhance the transformative potential of evaluations, and how this is impacting IFAD.
During the event, Dr. Indran A. Naidoo, Director of the Independent Office of Evaluation at IFAD, and Dr. Srini Pillay, CEO of NeuroBusiness Group – will delve into the ramifications of building a humanized approach to evaluation. Renata Mirulla, Facilitator of the EvalForward community of practice at FAO, will moderate the session. This event will be in English with live interpretation to Arabic, French and Spanish.
When registering, please let us know if you are joining the event in-person or remotely. For guests registering to join us in-person, kindly note that IFAD will not be responsible for visa processing or travel costs. Deadline for in-person registrations is COB (17:00 CET) on Monday 20 March 2023.
During the session Dr. Naidoo and Dr. Pillay will address the following questions:
- The fields of neuroscience and evaluation in development contexts would appear unrelated. What prompted IOE to recognize a potential synergy between the two?
- Can the application of neuroscience-based principles improve evaluation processes?
- Can communication approaches to evaluation that encompass neuroscience-based principles trigger transformative change?
- Is IOE planning to test the application of neuroscience principles in its work to help to improve the effectiveness of IFAD? What might be some examples?
- What are the benefits of a constructive engagement between the evaluator and the evaluand?
- Why is it important to establish a psychologically safe environment where people feel open to expressing themselves during an evaluation? How can this be done, in practice, considering the constraints we work in and the different cultural and social norms that influence our behaviours?
In preparation for this session, please visit the event page and read the concept note, where you will find further information and a list of web-based resources and related publications.
For questions: Please send an e-mail to innovation@ifad.org with the subject line “IFAD Innovation Talk No. 13”.
