Arrangements for Interim Secretary of IFAD

The Secretary of IFAD has informed me that he has been named by a member state as a potential candidate for the presidency of IFAD. I believe that there is a real risk of a perception of a conflict of interest if he were to continue to carry out his current functions.  The Secretary understands this concern and, on the basis of a mutual understanding,  I am relieving him of his current role and assigning him unrelated work reporting, in the interim, to the Associate Vice President and Chief of Staff. 

This arrangement becomes effective on 15 May 2016 and will run until such time as any special leave is granted, consistent with the rules applicable to all staff, for the individual concerned to campaign in support of his candidacy.  An announcement of the appointment of an Interim Secretary will be made as soon as possible.
