The Rome-based Agencies (RBAs) – the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Programme (WFP); in collaboration with UN Women – are pleased to invite you to their joint celebration of this year’s United Nations Day for South South Cooperation (SSC). The celebration, to be marked with a high-level webinar, aligns with the 2026 International Year of the Woman Farmer (IYWF) and is centred on the theme of “Scaling Impact, Sowing Equity: Rural Women Driving South-South and Triangular Cooperation for Sustainable Agrifood Systems”. 

The webinar will highlight effective approaches to advance gender equity and rural women’s empowerment in pursuit of agri-food systems transformation, which can be taken forward through SSC. With the spotlight on the Joint Programme on Accelerating Progress Towards Rural Women’s Economic Empowerment (JP RWEE), which is implemented by the four agencies in thirteen countries, speakers will discuss some best practices and lessons learned from the Programme and opportunities for exchanging knowledge and technical expertise through partnerships.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, IFAD, and two Japanese companies, UCC and Marubeni, formed a new public-private partnership, a joint investment project to enhance the sustainability of the coffee value chain and to support small-scale coffee producers in Tanzania. This event will introduce ELPS initiative as a new public-private partnership model, and through a panel discussion, we aim to discuss what role the private sector can play in global agricultural development and what can be done to further promote private sector involvement and investment in rural areas of developing countries.

Addressing the Crossroads of GBV, Agriculture, and Food Security

The United Nations Rome-based Agencies cordially invite you to a joint event on Tuesday, 28 November 2023, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (CET) to commemorate the 2023 International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and participate in the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence (GBV).

The event, entitled "Addressing the Crossroads of GBV, Agriculture, and Food Security," is hosted by IFAD and co-organized with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP). Experts will shed light on the adverse impact of GBV on agricultural production and food security, sharing insights from development interventions.

The event will be held in hybrid format, in person in the Italian Conference Room at IFAD headquarters in Via Paolo di Dono, 44, Rome, and online through Zoom.
