  • Distinguished Representatives,

On behalf of the United Nations Rome-based Agencies (the "RBAs", i.e. the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Programme (WFP), the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC) and the China Internet Information Center (CIIC), we are pleased to invite you to the International Workshop on “Promoting Partnerships and Knowledge Sharing to meet SDG1 and SDG2” that will take place on Tuesday, 5 June 2018 in the Oval Room at IFAD headquarters in Via Paolo di Dono, Rome, Italy.

The workshop aims at engaging countries and development partners in a discussion on how to enhance knowledge sharing and to establish efficient mechanisms to promote the realisation of Agenda 2030, and in particular of SDG1 and SDG2. The main objectives of the workshop will be the following: 1) present and discuss successful models, good practices and enabling policies for poverty and hunger eradication; 2) enhance knowledge cooperation between China and the three UN Rome-based Agencies for Food and Agriculture on poverty reduction and hunger eradication agendas; and 3) establish a regular forum to convene development agencies, government agencies, academia and the civil society to discuss and share experiences on poverty reduction and hunger eradication.

This event is a follow-up to the Seminar on “Global Partnerships for Poverty Reduction” that took place at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on April 28, 2017 that established the basis for the strengthening of relations between the RBAs and the Chinese Agencies with the mandate to work on poverty reduction and knowledge sharing (i.e. IPRCC and CIIC).

The workshop is one of the activities being implemented in Italy and in China as part of the “Joint Declaration on Strengthening Partnerships and Facilitating International Poverty Reductions Knowledge Sharing, Exchange and Cooperation,” between the RBAs, IPRCC and CIIC. Kindly see the provisional agenda here.

We would be honoured to count on your participation in the seminar. Kindly RSVP to Ms Daniela Marra (d.marra@ifad.org) by 31 May 2018.
