Mandate

The Executive Board has full authority to decide on the programme of work, approve projects, programmes and grants and adopt/recommend action, pending the final approval of the Governing Council on matters related to policy; the annual administrative budget; applications for membership and staffing within the Fund.

At its seventy-eighth session, the Executive Board adopted the IFAD Evaluation Policy [Arabic] [English] [French] [Spanish] wherein it was decided that the Office of Evaluation would operate independently from IFAD Management in the conduct of evaluation that it undertakes. In this respect, the Director of the Independent Office of Evaluation of IFAD, reports directly to the Executive Board, which oversees the work of the Office.

Executive Board Composition

Sessions

The Board meets three times a year, usually in the months of April/May, September and December; the exact dates of which are decided upon by the Board. The Executive Board sessions are chaired by the President of IFAD.

Membership

The Executive Board consists of 18 members and 18 alternate members. 

The members and alternate members of the Executive Board are elected by the Governing Council for a three-year term of office.

The distribution of seats for the Executive Board is as follows:

(i) eight members and up to eight alternate members from List A Member States;

(ii) four members and four alternate members from List B Member States;

(iii) six members and six alternate members from List C Member States (two members and two alternate members from each sub-List). 

The members and alternate members in the respective Lists represent other constituents of that List.

The President of IFAD is the Chairperson of the Executive Board.
